Mister Olive

Season
Olives are always available in the supermarket.
Benefits
Olives are very high in vitamin E and heart-healthy antioxidants. Because they’re cured in salt, though, they are high in sodium. This good fat from olives is necessary to line the membranes of our cells protecting the cells from damage and inflamation. Like going out in a snow storm without a coat!
Curiosity
The olive (Olea europaea) is the fruit of the olive tree. Olives are stone fruit, so they are related to peaches, almonds, and cherries. It is an important food crop in Italy, Spain and other countries around the Mediterranean, especially Greece.
Fun facts
In Roman literature, the olive branch is used as a symbol of peace: "extending the olive branch". In Christianity, too, it is seen as a symbol of peace, because according to the Bible, a dove brought an olive branch to Noah to show that the flood was over. Lots of important writers and illustrators use olive branches around text to give it a greater artistic credit (a similar effect is achieved with wheat).
